Consultations
Are your consultations for hair extensions really free of charge?
«Yes! If you’re curious about hair extensions—especially if it’s your first time—we highly recommend booking a free consultation. You’ll meet one-on-one with Martha, our hair extension expert, who will assess your hair type, discuss your goals, and recommend the right method and brand for your hair. She’ll also show you real hair samples right in the salon, so you can see and feel the quality.
Once we determine the type, length, and amount of hair needed, you'll receive a personalized quote with no pressure to commit.
How long does a hair extensions consultation take?
«Consultations typically last 20 to 30 minutes. This gives us enough time to understand your hair goals, assess your natural hair, and discuss the best options for your lifestyle and budget.
What should I bring to my consultation?
«We recommend bringing photos of your hair goals (whether it’s a certain length, color, or texture) and being prepared to talk honestly about your hair's past. The more we know, the better we can customize your look.
Services
Why is a consultation necessary before select services?
«Chemical services can be tricky—especially if your hair has been processed before. Understanding your full hair history helps us avoid breakage or unexpected color results. We’ll take time to evaluate your hair’s condition and texture to develop a plan that’s safe, effective, and aligned with your desired outcome.
The following services require a consultation before booking: Perm, Relaxer, Brazilian Blowout, Hair Botox, Keratin Treatment, and Japanese Straightening. Price based on the amount of product and time required.
Does Hair Xpressions offer hair color services?
«Yes, we offer a full range of salon services including color and texture services.

Extensions
How much do hair extensions cost?
«There are two main factors: the cost of the hair and the time to install it. Knowing which method and brand we'll use is just part of the equation. Then we walk through the options, like length, color, band size, texture and density, all of which vary by method and brand, making the cost question impossible to answer without specifics. It sounds like a lot to process but a brief 15 minute consultation will allow us understand your needs and provide you with a quote.
How do I maintain my color with hair extensions in?
«Quality human hair extensions can be colored, within reason. We need to be protective of your attachments, whether they are adhesive strips, keratin bonds or micro beads. With your extensions in, it's possible to do a color touch up or refresh your highlights, focusing on the new growth at the roots. As for all over color, we can do it as long as it's nothing extreme, within a few shades. It's not a good idea to do a lot of lightening with your extensions in.
How long does it take to apply hair extensions?
«Time in the chair will depend on the method. The installation time will depend on the method.Tape ins are the fastest. We can do a full head in under an hour. Wefts, depending on the beaded row method take about 2 hours. Fusion hair extensions are highly customized, adding length and volume strand-by-strand can take up to 8 hours. Microbeads are somewhere in the middle, averaging between 4-6 hours depending on the style. And we don't rush. By taking our time and checking each bond for tension, we assure that nothing is pulling or feeling tight. We don't want any unnecessary breakage. And what good is gorgeous hair if it's not comfortable!⠀
Those time frames are just for the installation. If we're also doing a hair color before we put your extensions in, then it will be longer. We also take time to cut and shape your extensions when we're finished, in order to match your length and blend in the ends with your style.
Do you extensions that will match my curly hair?
«Yes, this is exactly why we offer different brands of hair extensions. Some brands are a great match for hair that is straight or with a slight wave. Other brands, like Hair and Compounds, offer extensions for curly and very curly hair. We will look at your curly pattern and ask you about how you style your hair so that we can get you the perfect blend.
How do you match my extensions to my own color?
«We start by looking at your natural hair color and talking about the look you want. If you’re planning to go lighter, we may recommend coloring your hair first so we can match the extensions perfectly. Extensions can be ordered in a single shade or in blends, rooted and balayage shades to create natural-looking highlights and lowlights. Since we use high-quality human hair, we can also fine-tune the color in the salon if needed. Our goal is to order the closest match possible from the start, then make any final adjustments so your extensions blend seamlessly.
How much in-salon maintenance should I expect with hair extensions?
«Most extension methods need a maintenance appointment every 6–8 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows and the type of extensions you choose. During these visits, we’ll move the extensions back up to their original position, replace any that have slipped, and check that your hair and scalp are healthy. You’ll also get a refresh on styling and care tips so your extensions look and feel their best between appointments.
Tape in Extensions should be removed and reapplied with fresh tape every 6-8 weeks.
Weft Extensions and Microbeads alternate between an express move up and an a full move-up every 6-8 weeks. During an express move up, the beads are opened and and rows are moved up towards the scalp. In a full move-up, the beads and rows are removed completely then reapplied. We’ll check each attachment for comfort, replace any that have loosened, and make sure your natural hair stays healthy.
Fusion extensions are not moved up, they are worn for the full cycle, then need to be removed. A new set will need to be reapplied, the hair is typically not able to be reused. We recommend doing a half-way check in with us so that we can inspect your bonds and address any that may have slipped.
I’ve never had extensions before—what’s the first step?
«Book a consultation! It's a free session that lasts 15-30 minutes. We’ll chat about your hair goals, show you the different extension types, and let you see and feel the hair. You’ll get pricing, maintenance details, and answers to all your questions—no pressure, just honest advice so you can decide if extensions are right for you.
What are the best extensions for damaged hair?
«That's a fair question, especially if damaged hair brings you here in the first place. If your hair is damaged or fragile, we would recommend a method with the least amount of tension and a style with minimal weight.
During your consultation, we’ll look at your hair’s condition and recommend a solution that will give you the look you want while protecting your natural hair as it recovers.
The gentlest options are tape-in extensions or hand-tied wefts applied with minimal points of contact. These methods use lightweight attachments that won’t pull on your hair and can be removed or adjusted without solvents or heat. In some cases, we may suggest doing a little hair-repair work first to get your hair in the best possible shape before adding extensions.
Great Lengths
What’s the difference between Cold Fusion and Thermal Fusion?
«Both methods use Great Lengths’ patented keratin bonds, but the application is different.
- Thermal Fusion uses gentle heat to soften and mold the keratin bond around your natural hair.
- Cold Fusion uses ultrasound technology—no heat—to attach the bonds, making it especially gentle on fine or fragile hair.
Both methods create a secure, long-lasting bond that moves naturally with your hair.
Are Great Lengths extensions reusable?
«Like other keratin bond extensions, Great Lengths keratin bonds (GL Pre-Bonded) are designed for one-time use due to the nature of the bonds. However, GL Tapes may be reapplied for up to 2 additional wears depending on your hair and maintenance routine.
What makes Great Lengths different from other extension brands?
«Great Lengths is known for its premium 100% Remy human hair and patented bonding methods. The hair is ethically sourced and processed to keep the cuticle intact, so it blends seamlessly, lasts longer, and feels incredibly natural.
Do you offer Great Lengths Cold Fusion
«Yes, we offer both methods, cold fusion (or ultrasonic fusion) vs warm fusion (the thermal method.)
What is a cold fusion machine?
«The cold fusion method, also known as GL Ultrasonic Touch, is a small device that uses ultrasonic waves to active the keratin bond so that it attaches to the natural hair. Because it doesn't use any heat, it's ideal for clients with fine or fragile hair and still results in a discreet, seamless look like the thermal method. We offer both the cold and thermal application methods at our Houston salon.
What kind of hair does Great Lengths use?
«Great Lengths, both keratin bonded and the tapes, use 100% Remy human hair, ethically sourced from India. It is the best hair you can buy. The strands are aligned in the same direction (Remy), which prevents tangling and preserves shine. The hair is also Double Drawn to ensure thickness from root to tip for a fuller, healthier look.
How long do Great Lengths hair extensions last?
«GL Pre-Bonded (keratin bonds/k-tips) extensions can last 4 to 6 months with proper care and maintenance. Factors like hair type, lifestyle, and how well you follow care instructions will affect longevity. GL tapes can be worn 4-6 weeks at a time before they need to be removed, re-taped, and reapplied. Once removed, hair can be re-applied up to 3 more times, giving you a total wear time comparable to that of the keratin bonds.
What are the hair care instructions for Great Lengths?
«Use sulfate-free, extension-safe shampoos and apply conditioner only from mid-length to ends. Avoid oils or heavy conditioners near the bonds, and skip any alcohol-based styling products. Avoid pulling or tugging at the bonds. Brush gently with an extension brush and secure your hair in a braid or ponytail while sleeping. We'll give you personalized care tips following your installation.
Can I style Great Lengths extensions like my natural hair?
«Yes! Great Lengths hair extensions are made from 100% human hair, so you can curl, straighten, or blow-dry them just like your natural hair. Just avoid direct heat on the bonds themselves, whether they are keratin bonds or tapes.
Do I need a special brush for Great Lengths extensions?
«We recommend using a loop brush or a soft bristle brush designed for hair extensions. These brushes glide through the hair without catching on the bonds, helping you prevent damage while tangling every day.
